Atlantic All Stars team 97 faced their first two losses of the season.
Tying the first game of the tournament against the Jr. Buzzers was a dawning
realization that they would have to work harder and win their next three games
to advance to the Championship round of playoffs. The boys came to play
later that afternoon, beating the Halton Heat.
Saturday morning's game vs. the Detroit Red Wings (aka. Detroit Little
Caesar's) turned into heartbreaker. A hard fought game had brought them to 1-1 in
the third period but when an All Star goal was called off by the officials, a
frustrated and distracted team allowed Detroit to immediately skate down and
score what turned out to be the game winner. Detroit's coaching staff shared
their statistics after the game, letting us know that we had out shot them
37-11. Coach Corriveau was thrilled with the All Stars performance that game
saying "That was easily one of our best games this year. Sometimes you run into a
hot goaltender, and there is nothing you can do other than take a million
shots on him...which we did."
Saturday night's win against the CT Yankees clinched a consolation playoff
entry.
Quarter and Semi-Final Playoffs went well - taking the two wins against two
very physical, Toronto-based Canadian teams. After six games in two and a half
days, it came time to play in the Final against a seemingly unfatigued Boston
Icemen team. Though the All Stars scored three third period goals, coming
back from a five goal deficit proved too difficult, and Boston came away with
the victory - beating Atlantic All Stars with a running clock.
Next stop - Boston IceMen IceBreaker Tournament, Marlborough, Mass., June
22-24.
